Not your typical Caprese Salad

Elevate the standard tomato, mozzarella and basil salad with red onion and rice wine vinegar. These two ingredients provide a great flavor that will leave you thinking "what is in the salad, that taste so good?"

  • 1 tablespoon red onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon rice wine vinegar

  • 1 tomato

  • 1 fresh mozzarella ball

  • Balsamic glaze for drizzle

  • Fresh cracked pepper and salt

1. Finely chop red onion and chiffonade basil. Combine onion, basil, olive oil and rice wine vinegar to a bowl and set aside for flavors to meld.
2. Slice tomato and mozarella.
3. Layer tomato and mozzarella, alternating the two on a plate or platter.
4. Top with onion and basil mixture. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and fresh cracked pepper and salt.

This salad is all about it's ingredients, try to buy top quality for the best flavor.
This dish is easy to create and looks beautiful for a dinner party. Serve for an appetizer or along side your favorite Italian meal.
Burrata would also be delicious in place of the mozzarella.
Adding a crunch and top with chopped pistachios or toasted pine nuts adds another layer of flavor.
